History: Production/Stock Class Days

"RallyBrick" started this life as a 1980 242 DL. A Volvo service technician, Bill Malik got ahold of the car through the shop he was working for in 1988 or so and started the transformation. (The first entry in the logbook is for 1989).

A transplant from the UK, Bill had rallied in his native Kenya, following in the footsteps of his father, who had been a factory driver for several manufacturers throughout the 1950's and 60's.

Prepped for Production Class, it was run primarily in the California Rally Series but later went on to be an SCCA regional champion and two-time National runner-up. The paint scheme started out as a simple white with yellow and blue stripes (colors of the Swedish flag),

Bill's Car (#12 was later in life, and this is at his shiny new shop).

Still has the interior for Production (CRS Stock) Class. the old-style 262 headlights. #79 at this point. (Gorman Ridge Rally) Check out the 740 Turbo rims. Bill has one hanging on the wall of the shop that crumpled and failed him while leading East of Indio. Such is the nature of rally. (Somewhere in the Angeles Nat'l Forest).
Looks like a Gorman road to me. The Jet Ranger's top speed (at least the ones we use when shooting rallies these days) is around 120 mph. Did the Volvo just beat it, hence the shot, upstaging the helicopter?! #47 -- must be another season and the car's making Bill climb the podium.
Probably the same vintage. The rally lights are still permanently attached and the grill is still black. Sideways in the mud -- that's what 2WD is all about! Now it's #12 and the lights are gone. Judging by the jump, let's hope they're not laying on the stage a few miles back after a hard landing!
